What is YWAM?

To know God and make Him known

A Global Movement

Youth With A Mission is a global movement of Christians from many cultures, age groups, and Christian traditions, dedicated to serving Jesus throughout the world. Also known as YWAM (pronounced “WHY-wham”), we unite in a common purpose to know God and to make Him known.

Back when YWAM began in 1960, the main focus was to get youth involved in missions. Today, YWAM still focuses on youth, but we also involve people aged 9 to 90. YWAM currently operates in more than 1,100 locations in over 180 countries, with a staff of over 18,000.

One of the joys of participating in YWAM is to work with people from many nations. YWAM’s staff (known as “YWAMers”) come from over 130 countries, including places like Indonesia, Nepal, Mozambique, and Colombia.

About us

About us

The Casorate Primo base was pioneered by the Gatti family in 2016. The focus of the base is on adoration and the arts, from which comes the ministry name "Worship&Art." The vision is to take the glory of God to the nations using artistic expressions.

In 2017 the base will host its first School of Worship (SOW).

Andrea Gatti

I grew up in Binasco, in the province of south Milan. After finishing my studies at Centro Professione Musica di Milano, I came to know the Lord while working as a professional percussionist.

Responding to the Lord’s call, I began a time of spiritual formation in England with the Christian community, Jesus Army. When I returned to Italy, I connected with Youth With a Mission. First, I completed a Discipleship Training School (DTS) at the Milan base. Then I attended a School of Worship (SOW) in Lakeside, Montana (USA).

I was part of the YWAM Milano team. I also serve in my local Church, and I still study and teach music. I am married to Rachel, who I met during my studies with Youth With a Mission.

I love the arts, especially music. My dream is to see Italy and the nations blossom in their unique identity, each one expressing its specific character for the glory of God.

Rachel Gatti

I grew up in rural West Tennessee in the United States. After finishing high school, I studied theatre at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City where I discovered that my interest in creating interesting characters was better suited for the page rather than the stage. A love for adventure led me to the North and South islands of New Zealand, which greatly inspired the writing of my book, Beyond the Black Door, an adventure/fantasy for children ages 9 and up.

I did my Discipleship Training School (DTS) in Milan in 2009, where I met my husband, Andrea. After getting married I moved to Italy in 2011 and briefly staffed at the YWAM Milano base. Our daughter, Elisabetta, was born in 2014. I currently serve in my local church, teach English privately and collaborate with the ministry Freedom in Christ Italy.

My dream is to see more people receiving Christ and being discipled so that they too can lead others to Christ and disciple them.

Casorate Primo is an Italian town of 10,000+ people in the province of Pavia, close to the left bank of the Ticino River. It is a 30-minute drive from the city of Milan and 20 minutes from the city of Pavia. Nearby attractions include the Ticino National Park, the Certosa of Pavia and the Abbey of Morimondo.
